Greetings, and welcome to the 'STARtoons- Retro Rescue' page! Here you will find information, updates and downloads for the upcoming Karstens Creations PC game, 'Retro Rescue'. The game is an animated tribute to the classic arcade games from the 80's, such as 'Dragon's Lair' and 'Space Ace', with proposed 'mini games' between the levels of animation that pay homage to classics such as 'Robotron', 'Joust', and 'TRON'. If you have any comments or questions regarding the project, please email me via the link at the bottom of this page.
HISTORY
First, a little background on the project. I've always loved the animated laser disc games from the early days of the arcade, being a cartoonist myself...so I always dreamed of being able to create such a game. My first attempt at this was a 'sequel' game to 'Space Ace', which you can learn more about and download a playable level HERE
After abandoning this concept, I did a 'Dragon's Lair' spoof, featuring the cast of FOX TV's 'Family Guy', which was reviewed by Alex Borstein, Seth MacFarlane, and the writers of the show...see it HERE
The next step for me was to create a fully animated PC game featuring my own original STARtoons characters to avoid copyright issues...thus, 'Retro Rescue'. The storyline revolves around the evil little Retronator character, an alien that is so BAD at video games he comes up with the idea of creating a Time Device, so that he can journey back in time and kidnap all the classic namesake characters from video games, thus erasing video game history FOREVER! You play as Nikki, and attempt to rescue the characters and stop the Retronator...can you survive?
