Yes, there will be a 'V2.0' of 'The Novella Cut'.
I had no such plans until I received a very cool email from a talented filmmaker named Warren Lee who was into the idea of creating even more brand new footage to extend the current 'Novella Cut' finale. This filmmaker, who creates educational videos (and the occassional SFX laden extraveganza, for the fun of it) in the UK, has extensive experience in creating CGI (you can see his DEMO REEL here) and he suggested several very interesting possibilities for added sequences that would depict scenes from the original novella ending. These include...
- Addition of a sequence showing the flying 'Kite Creature' David spots in the misty sky overhead as they are driving.
- Possible addition of tentacles on the road, blocking the truck, which are mistaken for a fallen tree...until they slither aside.
- Addition of mist effect to the lake in the added 'Deleted Scene' current seen in the beginning of the cut as it stands.
- Removal/replacement of the finale sequence that shows David's wife Stephanie 'cocooned' to the house...this was not in the book, and we would like to fix the scene to show the truck unable to reach the house, due to a large pine tree blocking the way, as it was in the original text...this way, Staphanie's fate remains unknown, and David is crushed that he cannot reach home.
- Additional FX sequence for the final shot in the fan edit, showing an overhead pull back from the parked truck outside the Howard Johnson's, up through the mist into the sky, past the Impossibly Tall Creature walking a few miles further along, past multiple flying Kite Creatures, into space to show the revolving earth covered in mist, the sun peeking around the corner of the planet.
